Conceptualised by Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung – alongside co-curators Alya Sebti, Anna Roberta Goetz, Thiago de Paula Souza, co-curator at large Keyna Eleison, and communications and strategy advisor Henriette Gallus – the 36th Bienal is inspired by the poem “Da calma e do silêncio” [Of Calm and Silence] by poet Conceição Evaristo. It is founded on active listening to humanity as a practice of constant displacement, encounter, and negotiation. The 36th Bienal will take place from September 6 2025 to January 11 2026, with free admission.

Visual essay in three parts: The installation of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo. Part 3, by Ilana Bar

Putting together an exhibition on the scale of a Bienal is a great challenge. To document this two-month process – from constructing the architecture with the installation of walls in the Pavilion to the final adjustments and the installation of artworks alongside the artists – we invited three photographers to capture details, faces, and moments of creation. The third part of this visual essay, produced in August 25 at the Bienal Pavilion, is signed by Ilana Bar.
