Dedicated to the work of filmmaker and sculptor Kidlat Tahimik, the films shown in the public programme of the 35th Bienal de São Paulo expand on the poetics of the artist who is renowned for his caustic and unique sense of humour in portraying Filipino cultures in counterpoint to the cultural imperialism underway. Tahimik’s fascination with interplanetary travel led him to start a Filipino space programme in the fictional German city where he lives. Who invented the Yoyo? Who invented the Moon Buggy?, 1979 (95′) is an audiovisual testimony produced by the filmmaker with and for his community, who together build a rocket out of scrap metal.
