On October 6, 7, and 8, film screenings by Sarah Maldoror will take place at the auditorium of the blue floor.
Considered to be the mother of African cinema and with an output of more than forty films, including documentaries and fiction, Sarah Maldoror‘s archive contains a considerable number of realised projects and many others that were rendered impossible. And it is also in these impossible realisations that her participation in the 35th Bienal invites us to delve through notes, scripts, photographs, research and even documents that materialise her creative processes. Aiming to broaden the interlocutions created from the filmmaker’s work, the two film sessions, which will take place on 6, 7 and 8 October at 4.30pm, will feature the documentaries Ana Mercedes Hoyos, 2009 (12’51”) and Monangambé, 1969 (15’57”). In Ana Mercedes Hoyos – one of the last films directed by Maldoror – the filmmaker reflects artistically and explicitly on the multicultural relationship that underlies Colombian communities. Monangambé, Maldoror’s first short film, is based on a short story by Portuguese-Angolan writer José Luandino Vieira and tells the story of a political prisoner and his relationship with the colonial authorities.
