For children’s month in Brazil, the Fundação Bienal is organizing a series of free activities aimed at children during the 35th Bienal de São Paulo – choreographies of the impossible. Through a partnership with the NGO Estou Refugiado, on October 15 and 29, creative art and culture workshops will be presented, ranging from painting African masks to making fabric dolls, all under the guidance of refugee artists of various nationalities, who will share their life experiences. These workshops provide an opportunity for children to explore their artistic skills, while learning about the cultures and life stories of refugee artists.

On October 29, 2023, from 10 am to 1 pm, workshops for children with the NGO Sou Refugiado will take place at the Varanda Bienal, outside the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion. The activities include painting Persian Minatori art and traditional clothing with Masouma Yavari and Matin Wakily (Afghanistan), typical Afghan dance performance by the Narjis dance group and “baby in a sling” doll-making workshop with Renée Abegail Ross Londja (Guinea) and Shesa Otepa Londja (Democratic Republic of the Congo). Admission is free.

Founded in 2015, the NGO Estou Refugiado was created to support the reception of foreigners seeking refuge in Brazil. Over the years, the organization has worked to combat misinformation and prejudice against refugees, acting as an intermediary between refugees looking for work and companies that value diversity. The NGO also raises awareness of the refugee issue through projects such as the book Histórias reais de mulheres em situação de refúgio no Brasil, the Totem Interativo and the Cores do Mundo project. The NGO Estou Refugiado is committed to promoting inclusion, dignity and opportunities for those with refugee or asylum seeker status.
