On September 7 and 9, from 9am to 10am, Sound Baths Ceremony, an activation proposed by Guadalupe Maravilla, will take place at the 35th Bienal de São Paulo. With the collaboration of therapist Miralva Swaby, the artist combines his experiences of migratory transits and surviving cancer with indigenous knowledge to create healing rituals through sound.
During his cancer treatment, Maravilla learned about sound therapy, a healing practice that uses vibrations produced by gongs. According to the artist, this practice “cleanses the water from our bodies, which can carry stress, impurities and, in some cases, diseases”. Now an experienced practitioner of sound healing, Maravilla regularly carries out therapeutic sound immersions for different audiences. The gongs played by the artist and his collaborators are tuned to specific frequencies and create an immersive soundscape.
The sound bath will last one hour, arriving at 8.45am and starting at 9am. It will take place in the artist’s sculptural installation at the 35th São Paulo Biennial, on the blue floor (3rd floor). Late entry will not be permitted. The public will be able to sit or lie down on yoga mats provided by the Bienal. Please note that sound baths involve sustained noise levels of varying volumes. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
This event requires prior registration. Admission is free.
